Delineating the Path to Eminence in Chemical Science for Gifted Adolescents
The Catalyst Project is designed as an out-of-school program for adolescents with deep interests in and commitment to Chemical Sciences.  The objective of the program is to provide support for transforming this talent into the next generation of important scholars and practitioners in the discipline.  Catalyst will use a research-based mentoring model uniting eminent scholars, rising stars in the field, and highly gifted adolescents who have demonstrated exceptional abilities in Chemistry.  Over a three-year span, Catalyst will immerse 144 participants in the talent development of young scholars, creating an interdisciplinary, inter-generational network for creative stimulation, professional advice, and consultation.
Each year, the Catalyst Project will include 8 teams made up of:  1 eminent “Master,” 2 “rising star” Associates, and 3 young Scholars.  Four of these 8 teams will represent Chemistry sub-disciplines, and 4 teams will represent other domains.  The four Chemistry teams will be supported by the Camille Dreyfus Foundation.  Over 3 years, this support would affect 36 adolescents gifted in chemical sciences, as well as 24 outstanding assistant professors or post-doctoral/doctoral candidates.  We are seeking support as well for four teams in the performing or visual arts.)
